Every home and business generates waste. It's our job to ensure that waste is handled in a responsible manner that preserves our environment and protects our natural resources. To learn about how we manage wastewater, visit our Public Water System tab.
Solid waste is managed in Altona through the Waste Collection Program, and the Waste Disposal Site. Altona is a member of the Solid Waste Association of North America (Northern Lights Chapter), and takes solid waste management seriously. By implementing a three stream waste collection program (Compostables, Recyclables, Garbage) with no limit on compostable and recyclable materials, Altona has been able to reduce garbage disposal to an average of one bag per household per week. This change, along with the introduction of the Waste Diversion Loop have prolonged the life of our Waste Disposal Site.
