The Emergency Warning Siren will be tested today (Monday, May 5th) at 1:00 PM for four minutes as an annual test to check that the equipment is working properly. The Warning Siren will continue to be tested for a few seconds daily at noon.
You will recognize the sound of the siren, as it goes off for a few seconds each day at noon as a daily test. This siren is used to alert anyone who is outdoors of an emergency, such as a tornado or other hazard. When you hear the siren for longer than 30 seconds, you should go indoors and seek shelter. Once you are in a safe location, you should check CFAM 950 on the radio to find out what the threat is, and how to protect yourself.
If you are indoors during an emergency, you might not hear the siren. Sign up for Altona Connect, our emergency notification system. Through that system, you can receive alerts to your cell phone, landline, or email.
